The Rdr is a program designed to help you read more, with better focus and comprehension. Our reading specialists work one on one with you to practice strategies that will help you maintain your focus while reading. The program is aligned with the theory of embodied cognition, the idea that cognitive processes are influenced and shaped by our physical body and its interaction with the real world. More specifically, the words we read ought to trigger imagery in our minds, as though our brain is simulating the world on the page in front of us.
Many of us begin reading and get distracted within minutes. Some of us are able to read the words on the page while simultaneously thinking about something else–work, lunch, projects. We get to the end of the page only to realize we have no idea what we’ve just read! Learn to overcome this through proper reading technique and by practicing visualizing what you are reading while you are reading it.
There are few activities as broadly beneficial to us as daily reading. By reading every day, you’ll build a stronger vocabulary, develop better communication skills, become more interesting to yourself and others, and become more curious about the world around you. It’s one of the simplest activities you can do to grow in a variety of ways. And if you’re a student, a daily reading habit provides an enormous academic advantage.
The Rdr is an easy, flexible way to hold yourself accountable to your reading goals. You’ll be matched with one of our reading specialists and will begin developing a relationship with reading alongside them. In addition to your weekly reading sessions, you’ll receive daily reading reminder texts and quick vocabulary workshops. Choose to have books sent to your home and begin building your library. If you’re not reading and enjoying at least six books per year, let us help!
Sessions are provided via Zoom video conferencing.
